German automaker Daimler AG showcased trucks manufactured at its Chennai plant aat the 66th IAA International Commercial Vehicles exhibition. The company, which is present in India through wholly-owned subsidiary Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), showcased BharatBenz3723R, a five axle rigid truck with a gross vehicle weight of 37 tonne at the exhibition.

Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV) crossed the milestone of the 20,000th locally produced trucks from its plant at Oragadam, near Chennai. Only two-and-a-half years after start of production of the first BharatBenz heavy-duty truck, the 20,000th locally produced truck, a BharatBenz 2523C tipper, has rolled off the production lines at DICVs plant in Oragadam.

JK Tyres to double capacity

JK Tyres will double its capacity at its greenfield plant at Chennai by the end of this year. The work for the capacity expansion at Chennai plant is going on and is likely to start production from November-December. The expansion is being carried at an investment of Rs 1,500 crore.

Michelin to begin production at Chennai plant

Michelin will start production of tyres in full swing for commercial vehicles from its plant near Chennai. Production at the Rs 4,000-crore plant is on at four of the six tyre-assembling lines. They make about 250 truck and bus radial tyres daily. Two more lines will start soon. The current production is about one-third of the annual capacity of about 300,000 radial tyres for commercial vehicles.
